LV Side Trunk Still Worth Buying in 2023?

 

Since the end of last year, the most asked question by my fans and friends has been about the LV Side trunk. So today let's talk about this bag.

 


1. Material Recommendation

So far this bag has been released in 3 materials: Monogram, Calfskin, and Denim Jacquard. I think it will certainly become one of LV's main bags in the next one or two seasons. Why do I say that? On the one hand, as we all know, LV loves to use the Trunk series to raise its level; on the other hand, it is very important that this bag was released in all materials at once, which is not the case for all LV bags. Out of the three materials, I recommend Monogram the most. Calfskin is not a problem to use, but Trunk bags made with Monogram will be more durable, classic, and versatile.

 

 2. Comparison of Related Bags

When it comes to the Trunk remake bags, many people know this LV Side Trunk; actually, the earliest bag remade with Trunk in recent years is Petite Malle. Its two obvious bugs that people eliminated are too heavy for daily use and too small in capacity. Later, Petite Malle V and Petite Valise were not fundamentally solved this problem. But Side trunk is completely different, it is more portable, practical and fashionable.

 

3. Advantages and Disadvantages

First of all, many people think that Side Trunk has too many hardware, which is easy to wear. Personally, I think the most beautiful part of this bag is the metal edging and logo embossing on the vegetable-tanned leather, which is full of sense of detail. And the wear and tear of metal is far better than that of vegetable-tanned leather and coated canvas. It will not affect the use, but once the coated canvas is worn through, the bag will be useless. So many people complain about the four corners and hardware, but in fact, it is an advantage in use. When it comes to coated canvas, in theory, it is easy to crack after repeated folding and use. People who have used the Monogram know this. But it is said that the coated canvas of this bag has been improved and it will not appear that the surface is easily damaged. However, I still suggest that if you use this bag very frequently, don't fold it in the same place every time to avoid cracking; similarly, when not in use, try to fill it up and let it stand or lie down, don't always hang it.



Second, the lock buckle of LV is very unique on this Side trunk.




Third, the opening design of this bag is particularly humanized. After opening the zipper, it is triangular, which is very convenient to take things and will not scratch hands.

 

If you want to pick flaws, It’s not easy to shape the bag. Everyone agrees that this bag must be V-shaped to look good, but when slung, no matter whether there is something in the bag or not, it is very difficult to form V-shape. When slung, it is not as good-looking as Petite Malle's hard box, so this bag looks like it has many ways to carry it, but in fact, only hand-carrying is the best-looking.

 

But overall, this is a highly recommended bag, retaining most of the elements of the trunk, two shoulder straps, moderate capacity; the design of zipper and Buckle are full marks; such a bag full of details is also very lightweight.
